History
Angela has always been encouraged by her bossy mom Evelyn to emulate the success of her industrious restaurateur older sister. In high school Angela was pushed to work at the school cafe. She ran for prom queen but the coronation was derailed when she was falsely conflated with pregnant student Janet, and both young women were publicly humiliated, as well as separated from their mutual crush Matt. For the next few years Angela acted out by dating around, concerning Evelyn.
When Angela brought home news of marrying an older man, Jimmy, Evelyn hoped that her child was finally stabilizing and repeatedly enabled the couple. Angela took on cloying behaviors to gain status with her husband and his family. Unfortunately Jimmy did not provide a good domestic environment. While Angela began to consider a career in fashion, Jimmy would often make and break promises about the products he purchased her or the people he spent quality time around.
Angela finally snapped when she discovered Jimmy was having an affair with their mutual business associate. She publicly humiliated them both, quit the job, and filed for divorce. She competed on a reality TV show and got a steady job at the winner's boutique, Victory.
When high school student Chloe visited Victory looking for a prom dress, Angela bonded with her like a mother. Matt was also in town at this time, and Angela began planning a high school reunion, until Chloe's mother appeared: Janet! Angela sincerely blamed Janet for ruining her life and engaged in several manipulative behaviors trying to reduce her role. On the night of the reunion Angela and Janet physically grappled for the crown and the high school ended up burning down, getting them sent to jail. Angela, Janet, and Matt reflected that more important than their status games or hook-ups was giving Chloe space to process her acceptance of Matt as her probable biological father. Also, guiding the prisoners into a fashion show. Which worked out because Angela had been favoring reunion preparations over her work at Victory.
The next year Angela impulsively took a sabbatical from Victory to become apprentice to a bridal fashion designer. Conveniently enough her friend Fran announced his impending nuptials with traveling musician Caroline, to be held at his own cafe, Fran's. Angela was eager to take the reins... until the sewing machine she plugged in triggered a power surge that burnt down Fran's. Running back inside to retrieve Caroline's guitar, Fran inhaled potentially fatal amounts of smoke. Angela hid her guilt for weeks, constantly imagining that the shocking truth would result in violence to herself and the victims. She only broke down when Caroline cancelled the wedding. Then everyone worked together for a while to fix things, and the wedding was held in the rebuilt Fran's.
